Being loved changes things.
Caleb and I are nearing the end of his Army Career and the thoughts of retirement began to provoke dreams of "what's next?"
In the past 18 years and at each one of our duty stations we have been blessed to serve three specific communities; The Warriors (Military Vets and their families), The Widows (ers) and their families, and The Wanderers (Foster Teens and At Risk Youth) and it is these three communities we simply cannot imagine life without.
As we started to look towards the future and see what all the possibilities could hold, our dream of a camp that could bring these three groups together became everyday conversation. A camp where these groups could come and find a space to heal, rest, dream and connect. We desire a camp that offers quick get-a-way retreats and short-to-long-term stays for those who need some extra encouragement during their unique transitions. We have been inspired by the way we have seen these groups interact and love on each other and dream of providing a place where they can continue to serve one another, while being supported and loved on in return.
In our steps to commit our ideas into action we have become Alliance Partners with “Woman’s Non-Profit Alliance” (WNPA). They are our non-profit umbrella organization that has been working for the past 17 years helping new Non-Profits get off the ground. They take care of all the back office and IRS contact work while teaching us the ins and outs of Non-Profit organizations. This is invaluable to us as so much of what we will be doing is brand new to us.
Finally, what it all boils down to is this: Caleb and I have been loved so immensely that we cannot help but to love others. Our God and our tribe of Warriors, Widows and Wanderers, have challenged, inspired and exemplified what it is to love deeply. We love because we have been loved and we pray that our love for others will fuel a cycle that will continue long after we are gone.
So here we are Love Because 4:19, Engaging the Warrior, Encouraging the Widow and Empowering the Wanderer.
"We love because He first loved us." 1 John 4:19
